Border Patrol Website Maintenance 10/29/10 The BP Free website has not been managed or updated in about a year. I contacted several people who use to be involved but none seem to be still involved - at least not involved separately from the Port Townsend Peace Movement page. Then I tried to see if I still had access to the website and, to my surprise, I am apparently in charge and can update and manage the bpfree.org website myself! So, I'll start with this "News and Latest Border Patrol Updates" page. I will make it simple and easy to use and easy for me to maintain. I will also make it easy for others to maintain so it can be a collective effort. What do you think? Click here to contact me or send in pictures and news - and let me know if you want your comments published on line or not.

Updating links The links on the old links page mostly still work and collectively provide a good background but they are not up to date. A new links page will carry current links. And so that they don't get too overwhelming and out of date so quickly, the background and more or less permanent links, like to the ACLU, Stop the Checkpoints and the Port Townsend Peace Movement, will be in separate categories and the current and newsworthy but probably ephemeral links will first be noted here in the News and Updates and kept on the new links page only as long as they are newsworthy. Older news - and therefore older newsworthy links - will be accessible through links to older issues of the News and Updates.

Private Prisons Lobby behind AZ Anti-immigration Law 10/28/10 Interesting news this morning: Private prisons behind Arizona's immigration law to build prisons "for women and children who are 'illegal' immigrants" for profit. This seems to be a clear pattern from the ICE raid in Iowa in 2008 through the secure private prison for undocumented aliens in Tacoma, the plans to build a new prison in Port Angeles and now this "master plan" revealed in Arizona.

ACLU to Press Lawsuit Against the Border Patrol The Border Patrol has announced that they are resuming checkpoints on the Olympic Peninsula and the ACLU is pursuing legal action.
