    Border Patrol Headquarters
    1/26/10

Several of us who were in Port Angeles to participate in a rally to support the health care bill decided to visit the Border Patrol offices.

The Border Patrol offices are in the beautiful Federal Building in downtown Port Angeles. Inside we found it difficult to find the BP offices which turned out to be upstairs. We were surprised to find the door locked and a sign reading "RESTRICTED AREA" "DO NOT ENTER".

I think we expected the Border Patrol offices to be open to the public - to at least be able to talk with a receptionist - sort of like a police station or an FBI office.

The Border Patrol does not seem to be very transparent, open or responsible to the public. Unlike the police or sheriff, the Border Patrol activities are not reported in the newspapers. The Border Patrol seems to be a secret police force accountable to whom we know not - certainly not us.
